Menopause in the Workplace

As a woman leader and Executive Coach with 30+ years in professional services, I believe workplaces must be inclusive and supportive for all. When they are, everyone thrives with higher engagement, retention, resilience, and creativity. Everybody wins.

Yet often menopause remains overlooked, at times dismissed as taboo. The impact on women (and some non-binary and transgender people) is real, but is too often ignored by employers.

This is why I am so passionate about championing how to manage menopause in the workplace.  It matters because:

It makes business sense

  • 2.5m women are aged 45-54 in Australia (the average age of perimenopause), and 78% are in the workforce

  • supporting these employees leads to your recruitment and retention of your unfair share of talent

  • a diverse workforce leads to increased creativity, learning, innovation, productivity and profitabilty

  • supporting your workforce to meet their needs leads to increased engagement, optimism and performance.

It's an employee wellbeing issue

  • 80% of perimenopausal women+ experience related symptoms, with the greater number noting that it impacts them in the workplace

  • positive employee wellbeing leads to improved engagement.

It's about aligning leadership

  • a positive leadership impact results when making your team feel like they matter

  • understanding their needs to allow them to be their best selves is a critical part of this

  • creating an environment which offers support towards their menopausal-related needs in the workplace comes about from leaning into the conversation.

Through group coaching, I provide women+ with the skills and wisdom to address their needs through this stage of life. Rather than feeling that they need to pull away from opportunities or the workforce, they can learn how to increase their self-determination and take control, build their knowledge and connect with others in order to build strategies which support them to be of their best, and have long-term sustainable careers. The ripple effect is extensive.

As a group coach, I have successfully delivered such support and strategies to the benefit of women+ and their organisations. My understanding of menopause and the systems in which we find ourselves, drives me to enrich organisations so that they respond to the key issues of menopause: menopause is a business issue, a wellbeing issue and a leadership issue.

That’s why I also share this message through keynote speaking and panels. This isn’t just about women. It’s about all of us and creating workplaces where everyone thrives.
